Tornado Recovery: How to Report Damage for Grants and Tax Adjustments

- 1 min read
In the wake of Monday’s storm, we want to ensure every resident of Sugar Valley has the resources they need to rebuild. Please take note of these three critical reporting requirements and the medical resources available today.
1. Visit the Red Cross Communication Center
The Red Cross has established a mobile Communication Center in the Sugar Valley Clubhouse parking lot. They will be stationed there all day today.
Please stop by to report your property damage. Even if you think your damage is minor, reporting it is vital! These collective numbers determine if our area qualifies for state or federal grants, which can help neighbors pay for repairs.
2. NEW: Report to Linn County Emergency Management
Linn County Emergency Management is requesting a detailed report of all storm damage. You can submit this information via phone, text, or email.
Contact: Call or text 620-224-8189, or email lsimons@linncountyem.org
Required Information: Please provide your name, phone number, email, the location of the damage, and a detailed list of what was damaged.
3. Contact the Linn County Appraiser’s Office
To ensure your property taxes are adjusted fairly, the Linn County Appraiser’s Office encourages you to report damage directly to them.
Email: appraiser@linncountyks.com
Phone: (913) 795-2523
Office Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Volunteer Support: Tdap Shots Available
We are so grateful for everyone helping with the cleanup. Because of the debris, we have a nurse on-site at Sugar Valley today providing Tdap (Tetanus) shots for volunteers. If you are helping move debris and aren't sure if you're up to date on your booster, please stop by to see her.
