Today, I am going to be the bearer of some bad news.  I have decided that we are going to pull the 'guest' access to our internet service while in the Club House at Sugar Valley.

This will become effective on February 20 beginning at 12:00 AM.

We must make this change because we, in the administrative offices, cannot effectively do our job when guest use is even at a moderate level, let alone when it is being used heavily.  Our first obligation is...

Tonight, I will be at the Hidden Valley Club House to conduct an Association Manager's 'Listening Session'.

I look forward to hearing of concerns from our association members.  I also look forward to dialogue on not only what our pressing issues are, but I look forward to hearing the best ideas on how to tackle those most pressing problems.

My hope is that having this session before the Board Meeting it will provide us more time to delve deeper into the issues.  Pleas...

Today I would like to spend some time introducing myself to you and giving you some background on me in the hope that I will become more transparent in my thought process and decision making on behalf of the Association.

I am a native of Linn County. In fact, I own a farm about 6 miles west of Sugar Valley that has been in our family since 1884.  That makes me a 5th generation Linn County resident. My wife, Kerry (Barnes) Morrell, and her family have been here, in Li...

Max Horner has accepted the job of Security Guard at Hidden Valley Lakes.

I offered the position to him this morning and he promptly traveled to Hidden Valley to do some training and orientation. Max is now officially on the job! You will see Max making patrols around the lake in the same vehicle that Bill Walkling, our former security at Hidden Valley, used to patrol.  The Hidden Valley Security vehicle is a brown, GMC Sonoma, extended cab.

Max will be reporting...

Members:

I return to the topic of a mission statement for the Association as a whole. As I indicated in an earlier blog, I want to write a mission statement that the Board will approve, and more importantly, embrace.

I now turn to you, our members-to critique the statement I have written and copied below. I have already vetted it among various staff members. That is to say that it is inclusive of the things that I want to be included. They are:

1) It is explicitly incl...

Today it seems appropriate to discuss the tank truck pumping we do for members who have holding tanks.

The most important thing to know today is that we cannot pump when the temperatures drop below 23 degrees F due to the risk of a frozen pump on the truck; seizing up and causing expensive repairs and loss of service to our members due to down time for repairs. So, during these cold winter days, please plan ahead and request your pumps ahead of the days which might b...

Yesterday  I sought clearance from the Chair of the Board to begin work on a set of statements that will become the guiding principals which will instruct the work of the Office and the Association Manager.  Chairman Otto granted me that clearance.

The first order of business will be to write and have approved a precise and pithy mission statement.  In the past jobs I have had as an executive in higher education systems, I have insisted that a mission statement...

Today begins my first official day of work without former manager, Ron Nickelson, who is now fully retired. Ron was a great aid in bringing me up to speed and I told him he would remain on 'speed dial' for many days to come.

Bill Walkling, the security person at HVL has resigned to pursue other interests and no longer works for us. I would like to attempt to fill that job from referrals that I receive from other members or friends.  If you know someone who would be g...
