April Fools

To my dismay and to the dismay of many other members, April weather (RE: cold weather) has been very unpredictable.  That has caused us to delay indefinitely the opening of the Association shower houses.

Our plan moving forward is to monitor the trends regarding temperatures and not open the shower houses until it is safe to do so and not be concerned about pipes freezing and bursting.  We certainly do not need or want extensive, expensive and time consumi...

Camping season is upon us and the shower houses will be in full swing.  With April 1st being on Sunday, and a holiday at that, we will be opening shower houses at both lakes on Monday, April 2nd. The shower house at Sugar Valley clubhouse will be open on Monday also, since our clubhouse is closed on Sunday for the holiday. As usual, the clubhouse shower/restroom at Sugar Valley clubhouse will be open only during business hours.

A change in the main shower houses at b...

Guiding Statements

With the recent Sunday edition of the KC Star there seems to be regional interest in the actions and activities of HOAs in the Kansas City Area.

To read the KC Star article click

I am very happy to report that at the past two Board Meetings we have had approved three very important statements that I drafted, crafted, vetted, and edited to final form.  They serve as the basis of how I intend to conduct business operations on behalf of the Associatio...

Pool Concerns

At the Board meeting held on February 15, I brought forward a proposal from a vendor to bring the pool up to full operational standards.  The cost was about $70,000.  That proposal was voted down by the Board members.  It is a simple fact that with current obligations the Association does not have $70,000 to do the necessary repairs to the pool.

At the Board meeting on March 15, I proposed that the Board approve a motion to form a committee to...

As lot sales in the communities increase and individuals are clearing off lots getting them ready for the camping season, burning of limbs and brush are a huge part of that process.  We have had inquiries about burning within the lake properties and I thought I would take time to make sure some important information is given.

  • Before starting any fire please call the proper county authorities to inquire if there is a burn ban in effect.  For Sugar Valley call Linn...

Campsite Caretaker needed

Management is seeking a person who would like a seasonal job as a caretaker at our campgrounds at Sugar Valley Lake.  We are seeking a person that has a camper and would like to stay at our campgrounds for our camping season, April 1st to October 31st, monitoring our trash compactor, shower house and campgrounds. Daily maintenance of the shower house would be necessary along with clean-up on the campgrounds and trash compactor area.

Today, we welcome a new member to our staff serving you at Sugar Valley and Hidden Valley.

This person's name in Jordan D. Sorrells.  He is the new tank truck operator.

Jordan started last week and was hired because of his past experience of driving a dump truck.  He has much to learn to do this job as he is unfamiliar with this type of truck and its functions and he must quickly get familiar with the layout and locations of all our lot owners who utilize our tank pum...

Many of you know I spent my entire working career, 42 years, in higher education before retiring only to be quickly lured out of retirement by the challenges of being the association manager for this Association.

The standard, high end ‘credential’ for working in higher education is the Ph.D. which I earned in 1989.  After completing my oral and comprehensive exams, I swore I would never take another test except to renew my driver’s license!  Well, never say never…....
